Rebecca Christian,
CPD, CLEC
I'm a San Diego native passionate about birth, wine, nerd things, traveling, women's empowerment, health equity, and reproductive justice. I am a Catholic Christian doula, and work with families of all backgrounds and sexual orientations. I tell you about my faith because it informs my philosophy on how I think birthing families and babies should be treated: with respect, awe, and reverence no matter who they are or where they are choosing to birth. It’s also where the name Fiat Doula Services comes from. “Fiat” means surrender in Latin. It’s a ‘yes’ with your whole mind, body, and heart – the first step toward a peaceful birthing experience.
I started doula work in 2016, and to be honest it was a bit of an accident. I won’t bore you with all of the details (feel free to ask me to tell you the full story if you book a consultation) but suffice it to say my best friend was a doula and told me she thought I’d be good at it. I was trained and spent a year being mentored by senior doulas and midwives, and quickly developed a passion for serving birthing families. In 2020, I decided to take the step to become a Certified Lactation Educator and Counselor, and in 2022 I joined the groundbreaking doula program at Providence Little Company of Mary in Torrance, CA.
Outside of doula work, I am a TV/Film writer-director, a proud godmother of two of the coolest little people on the planet, and a connoisseur of trashy reality TV.
